HYDROCONNECT: Our Mission

With the hydrodynamic screw with double rotating cylinders with the Albrecht fishLift inside, we at Hydroconnect are contributing to complete fulfilment of the EU Water Framework Directive. We improve the condition of the surface water and make it possible for fish and river life to have injury-free passage of transverse structures – an important contribution to an intact environment.

Hydroconnect technology supports the regeneration of the fish population and diversity in flowing waters while at the same time producing green energy.

The history of Hydroconnect hydrodynamic screw with double rotating cylinders with the Albrecht fishLift inside

after 2015

The ongoing implementation of client projects and the included monitoring 2021 led to the admittance of both systems – the electricity generating fish bypass as well as the fish ascent screw to the "Guideline for the construction of water ladders" by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Regions and Tourism Austria

April 2015

Completion of the screw power plant on the Jeßnitz at the area of the Lower Austrian State Exhibition Ötscherreich 2015. The demo power plant covers its own consumption and establishes a fish passage upstream and downstream, which must be ensured by 2027 at the latest in accordance with the EU Water Framework Directive.

Jan. 2015

The hydrodynamic screw with double rotating cylinders with the Albrecht fishLift inside goes into operation on the Sulm in Styria on behalf of VERBUND.

Sept. & Nov. 2014

At the invitation of the Federal Environment Agency, the experts at Hydroconnect together with representatives from politics and environmental protection develop a synopsis paper on the fish ladder at the “Fish Protection and Fish Bypass” forum.

Sept. 2014

As the most successful project in Austria so far, Hydroconnect goes down in the history of the Green Rocket crowdfunding platform with its crowdfunding campaign.
Shortly after that, Hydroconnect takes 3rd place as well as the special jury award “Environment” of the Green Business Awards.

April 2014

During the first forum of the Fish Migration and Hydropower Initiative, members of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, the Lower Austrian State Government, University of Natural Resources and other hydropower and environmental experts give top marks to the technology from Hydroconnect. Besides the safety of fishes, the decisive arguments for the electricity-producing fish bypass are mainly the minimum amount of space that is required and the high efficiency.

2013

Hydroconnect GmbH is founded; managing directors are Walter Albrecht and Paul Edelsegger The Hydroconnect hydrodynamic screw with double rotating cylinders with the Albrecht fishLift inside is awarded three EU patents.

Since 2012

University of Natural Resources in Vienna (BOKU) carries out the fish ecology accompanying research. Trials and monitoring of the fish ascent and fish descent as well as microorganisms take place constantly. They show that the fish observed in the research are able to pass transverse constructions with the Hydroconnect hydrodynamic screw without injury.

2011

Walter Albrecht invents an electricity-producing fish lift. The first prototype is created.
